Classes
Prana Flow Yoga classes start for the New Year on Monday January 11th 2010, and run three times a week. Please note that this year’s format will be slightly different.
If you are new to Prana Flow classes, please attend Monday night classes. Mondays will be focused on a thorough grounding of Prana Flow Yoga basics, and are suitable for all levels, but required for beginners. We ask that beginners attend at least four Monday night classes before moving on to Thursdays and Saturdays.
If you’re new to Prana Flow, but not new to yoga, we ask that you attend just one Monday night class, before going on to Thursdays and Saturdays.
If you’ve been coming along to Prana Flow Yoga for at least four classes, you’re welcome to attend any class – including Mondays. Regular students will still get a lot of benefit out of Monday night classes as they are an opportunity to really get the basics down well.
All classes run right through any public holidays, unless other wise noted on this web page.
Prana Flow Teachers for this year are:
Marianne Elliot, and Seka Ojdrovic.
I’ll (Kara-Leah) be back after giving birth, (due January 14th), date to be confirmed.
Location:
Classes are run at Pump Dance Studio, located at 302 Taranaki Street, Wellington. (Opposite Wellington High School, beside the Night Shelter)
- Mondays 7pm – 8.15pm
- Thursdays 7pm – 8.15pm
- Saturdays 9.30am – 10.45am
Mats are provided. Please try and be on time for the sake of the other students. If you are running late, come in quietly and take it slowly while you find the rhythm of the class and your body.
Classes are drop-in, and there are no set terms so you can start anytime, but please note, beginners can only attend Monday night classes initially.
Cost? You decide!
In the spirit of seva, Prana Flow yoga classes have no set price. Pay what you think the class is worth according to your means and your budget. We set up a box outside the yoga room for you to place payment into after each class. Drop-in yoga classes in Wellington range from $5 for unwaged to $18 casual rate at studios. Being mindful of what you choose to offer is part of the awareness of yoga.
We’ve been running classes like this since February 2009, and recently ran a series of articles exploring how it had worked, and what we’d learned from the process. You can read those articles here:
Why yoga?
The short answer is that yoga makes you feel good. Practicing the postures, breathing exercises and meditation makes you healthier in body, mind and spirit. Yoga can help with anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, chronic fatigue, depression, diabetes, headaches, stress and other conditions and diseases.
And that’s just the surface stuff. In fact, most of the benefits mentioned above are secondary to yoga’s original purpose, which is to find lasting happiness and peace of mind. Come along and find out for yourself!
What level are the classes aimed at?
The classes are suitable for all levels – beginners, intermediate and advanced. Prana Flow Yoga is all about listening to your body and working within it’s range of movement and strength. Variations are given for most postures so students can work at their own level. Please note, all beginners need to start on the Monday night classes.
What do I need to know before I show up?
Don’t eat at least an hour, preferably two hours, before class. Wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in and go upside down in. And come ready to have some fun!
